Saskia Bos has been the Dean of the School of Art at The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City since 2005. In addition to strategic planning and academic program development, she appoints adjunct professors as well as artists for endowed Faculty Chairs. She curates exhibitions and collaborates on public programs. At The Cooper Union, she has taught the Junior Seminar, the Interdisciplinary Seminar and Contemporary Art Issues. Previously, Saskia Bos served as Artistic and Managing Director of the De Appel Centre for Contemporary Art in Amsterdam for more than two decades. A key figure in the field of contemporary art in Europe, she was also the Founding Director of the De Appel's Curatorial Training Program.
Known for her achievements in art history and critical theory, Saskia Bos has produced many international projects and exhibitions, most recently she curated the Dutch pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2009. Other projects include: 3rd Skulptur Biennale Münsterland, 2003; 2nd Berlin Biennale, 2001; Biennale São Paulo (Dutch Commissioner) 1998; Venice Biennale 1988 (Co-curator of Aperto) and Sonsbeek '86, Arnhem, Netherlands. From 1999 to 2002, Saskia Bos was president of IKT (International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art). She was a member of the advisory committee of the Yokohama Triennale, the nomination committee for Documenta 11, Kassel, the board of the 2007 Moscow Biennale, the 2007 Jury for the Sculpture Center, New York, and the Board of Art in General, New York, and of the Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam (2010-2014). She is currently on the Board of Artists' Space in New York and the Advisory Board of '30 weeks' for Google-Hyper island, New York, and Board Member of AICAD.
Bos holds a Master's Degree in Art History at the University of Amsterdam, where she also studied History and Media Theory. She received her BA in Art History from the University of Groningen.
