Kerry Brougher described how cinema had erased the cultural difference between fiction and reality, and that of illusion and reality. Cinema is undoubtedly the art of the twentieth century. In mass culture and the cinematographic vocabulary (followed by its evolution: internet and television), the heart of society is reached by making a clear distinction between real life and fiction almost indistinguishable. With the aim of discovering and emphasizing this "cinema effect", Brougher traced a trajectory of prehistoric cinema up to the latest use of films and videos by contemporary artists.

Kerry Brougher (1952) is an american curator that investigates the links between art and cinema. Former director and curator of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles and chief curator of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington DC, he is director of the Modern Art Oxford and curator of the Museum of Modern Art of Los Angeles.
